Miracle League Buddies (Our Most Valued Volunteers!)
The heart of our league is the "buddy system," where each athlete is paired with a dedicated volunteer friend. As a buddy, your main priorities are safety, presume competence, encouraging engagement, and being a cheerleader. You'll assist your athlete on and off the field, celebrate their successes, and become a true friend.
A Buddy Should:
-
Prioritize Safety: Always protect the athlete, stepping in front of them if needed for a hard hit.
-
Be a Motivator: Bring enthusiasm, a positive attitude, and genuine concern to inspire athletes and their families.
-
Build Friendships: Get to know your assigned athlete and their family, fostering connection beyond the game.
-
Be Prepared: Arrive 10-15 minutes before game time, dressed appropriately (with a designated Buddy t-shirt), and notify your coach if you can't make a game.
-
Stay Focused: Refrain from cell phone use while with your assigned athlete.
-
Uphold Integrity: Demonstrate high morals and integrity on and off the field.
Who Can Be a Buddy? We welcome kind-hearted individuals aged 12 and older. Buddies can be fellow schoolmates, parents, college or high school students, athletes, business leaders, or any individual or group eager to give the gift of baseball. No prior experience is needed; we provide all necessary information and training.
Time Commitment: Buddies are our most common opportunity, typically attending one game per week for a total of eight games over the course of the season. Games are played on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings at The Miracle Field in Valley Farms Park, DeWitt Charter Township.
